A local communications provider is one of three statewide that received federal money to upgrade mobile service in rural areas of New Mexico that lack 3G or 4G wireless service. According to a release from Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., Plateau Telecommunications Inc. received $9.6 million to upgrade service across seven counties in the central and southeastern areas of the state. The Mesalands Community College's Rodeo Team had their second rodeo competition for the season at Cochise College in Douglas, Ariz., last weekend. State police said Tuesday that homicide charges against Frank Keller, 45, are "forthcoming" after positively identifying human remains found near Logan as that of Kimberly Draman. A press release from state police said Keller has confessed to his involvement in the death of Draman, 53, of Tucumcari, and took investigators to where the woman's remains were found Friday near U.S. 54 and Quay County Road AC. Last week was made special by a visit with Roy Penix and his wife, Rita, of Linden, Utah. Roy was one of my brother's best friends and most definitely was a hero of mine. He moved to Tucumcari with his family, the Houston Penixes, from the Duran area when a number of families were transferred here by the Southern Pacific.
