    Mesalands Community College President Mildred Lovato was placed on paid administrative leave Oct. 31 in a closed-door executive session, according to board Chairman J. Bronson Moore. Lovato Moore said trustees decided in executive session to place Lovato on administrative leave. The closed-door session was part of a special meeting, Moore said, adding that Lovato was sent a certified letter explaining her status at Mesalands. Moore said no action was taken in public session.   • Improvements for wells approved

    Grants were approved Wednesday at a special session of the City Commission from the Water Trust Board for improvements of three water wells at five mile park. For infrastructure improvements and upgrades, Resolution 2012-43, the city was awarded $50,000 with the city budgeting its 10 percent share of $5,000 for upgrades to the east end of Tucumcari. Some 1,500 feet of bad sewer line will be repaired in this project....

    Kindergarten through fifth-grade students held a contest at the elementary school to see which class could collect the most canned and dry goods to be donated to the Ministry of Hope.     Altrusa International of Tucumcari is hosting its annual cash party at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Quay County Exhibition Center. The theme is "Country Barbeque."     One more time, we have done as told and turned back our clocks in order to create confusion. We will now be on standard time just long enough to begin to get used to it before returning to daylight savings time.     With 61 percent of the votes in, state higher education Bond C was passing easily. That means $1 million for renovations at Mesalands Community College in Tucumcari. According to the New Mexico Secretary of State's website, Bond C was passing 278,051 votes to 176,354. "This is a great development for Mesalands," said J Bronson Moore, chairman of the board of trustees.     Democrat Sue Dowell received about 60 percent of the vote and defeated Independent Wendell Smith in the race for Quay County Commission District 1.
