Six Clovis residents charged in boating accident

Six Clovis residents entered a no-plea Tuesday in Quay County Magistrate Court to multiple felony charges in connection with a Memorial Day weekend boating accident on Ute Lake that resulted in critical injuries to a friend.

Brittany Holt, Jonathon Maes, Logan Denton, all 21, Tre Orozco, Kendra Gibbons, both 18, and Spencer Norris, 20, were released on bond, according to court records.

The six defendants appeared before Judge Joel Garnett and faced charges including selling or giving alcoholic beverages to minors and contributing to delinquency of minors.

State police Lt. Lance Bateman said Shaina Pool, 21, of Clovis was injured on May 27, when she fell out of a moving boat and was struck by the propeller.

Pool was subsequently flown to a hospital in Amarillo where she remains with critical injuries.

Bateman said investigation determined alcohol was being consumed by occupants on the boat, many who were under-age.

As a result state police obtained the following felony charges:

  • Holt five counts selling or giving alcoholic beverages to minors and two counts contributing to delinquency of minors. Released on $10,000 bond.
  • Maes five counts selling or giving alcoholic beverages to minors and two counts contributing to delinquency of minors. Released on $10,000 bond.
  • Denton five counts selling or giving alcoholic beverages to and two counts contributing to delinquency of minors. Released on $50,000 bond.
  • Orozco two counts contributing to delinquency of minors. Released on $10,000 bond.
  • Gibbons two counts contributing to delinquency of minors. Released on $10,000 bond.
  • Norris two counts contributing to delinquency of minors. Released on $25,000 bond.

In addition state police said two juveniles will be summoned into court for minor in possession of alcohol, allowing self to be served.

Bateman said the investigation continues and more arrests are possible.
