Freedom Communications sold to 2100 Trust

LOS ANGELES — Freedom Communications Inc., the former owner of the Clovis News Journal, Portales News-Tribune and Quay County Sun, is being sold to an investment group that had earlier tried to purchase The Boston Globe.

The sale to 2100 Trust LLC represents the last of six pieces of Freedom that have been sold since it emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May 2010.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In April, Freedom sold eight TV stations to Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. for $385 million. This year, it also announced the sale of newspapers in Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, Indiana and New Mexico.

Monday's announcement includes The Orange County Register; the Desert Dispatch in Barstow, Calif.; The Gazette in Colorado Springs, Colo.; the Appeal-Democrat in Marysville, Calif.; the Porterville Recorder in Porterville, Calif.; the Daily Press in Victorville, Calif.; and Yuma Sun in Yuma, Ariz.
