Tucumcari city employees held a retirement pot luck luncheon for Landfill Coordinator Alex Madrid on Friday.

Madrid has worked for the city of the last eight years and decided it was time to retire. He said that he had been doing some work on his house like painting and some remodeling and now he will have time to get his house finished during the colder months.

Madrid said that he will probably go back to work doing something like teaching, construction and some consultation with the city.

Nicole Madrid said his retirement wouldn't last, he doesn't know how to slow down and he gets bored doing nothing. She hopes that he will finally get the house finished.

City Manger Doug Powers said that he had worked with Madrid off and on for about 20 years. He said that Madrid worked on a lot of city projects with Pacheco's Trucking.
