Rattler wrestler takes first

Tucumcari Rattlers wrestler Dillon Wood was named outstanding wrestler with a first place finish at Saint Michael's tournament.

Woods' first place finish was in the 132-pound division a higher weight class than what he normally competes in at 126.

"It gave me a chance to compete against some stronger opponents," Woods said.

Woods said moving up to a higher weight for Saint Michael's will help him to develop as he strives each week to get better. He said as the season winds down he knows each competition is only going to get harder.

"It was a great tournament for the Rattlers," said Eddie Encinias, Rattlers head coach.

Encinias said the team is expecting the competition to be tougher and knows they will work harder on their conditioning. He said the team got to see a lot of the wrestlers they will face during district and state.

"I'm looking forward to these guys stepping it up," Encinias said. "Each year they continue to amaze me with how they respond to the pressure."
