Mesalands students holding Easter Bunny charity event

Mesalands Community College's student government organization is holding an Easter Bunny charity event Thursday.

To help usher in the holiday and give back to the community the student government arranged for the Easter Bunny to visit with the students at Tucumcari Elementary School and area children. Proceeds go to the Ministry of Hope said Jason Witterman, president of student government.

Witterman said the Easter Bunny would be giving out plastic eggs filled with candies to pre-kindergarten through second grade classes. He said later the Easter Bunny will be available for pictures at 6-8 p.m. at the commons area in Building A at Mesalands.

Witterman said residents are asked to bring a can of food to have their children's picture taken with the Easter Bunny. He said pictures would be sent to them via email.

Witterman said all of the food that is collected would be donated to the Ministry of Hope. He said he is new to Tucumcari and is attending Mesalands for the wind energy program.

"The college has done so much for me and it makes me happy to be a part of an event that gives back to the community," Witterman said.

It is wonderful that Mesalands is holding an event that not only brings joy to the children of the community it also helps those in need, said Doyle Frasier, director Ministry of Hope.

Fasier said the ministry is a non-profit corporation and everything they provide is free to those in need. He said no volunteers are paid and no profit is raised from the food, clothing or services help provide.

"There is more need today than ever," Fasier said. "We appreciate any donations that can be made, be it food, money, clothing or volunteer time."
