I-40, U.S. 54 and NM 209 difficult for driving; snow, freezing rain to continue through Sunday

The New Mexico Dept. of Transportation reports difficult driving conditions on the following roads as of 6 a.m. today:

  • NM 209, Grady to Tucumcari, roadway is icy with freezing rain. Crews are out plowing, salting and cindering. Please drive with caution and reduce your speed in this area.
  • I-40, Tucumcari to Glenrio, roadway is icy with freezing rain. Crews are out plowing, salting and cindering. Please drive with caution and reduce your speed in this area.
  • U.S. 54, Tucumcari to Nara Visa, ), roadway is snow packed and icy. Crews are out plowing, salting and cindering. Please drive with caution and reduce your speed in this area.
Snow and bitterly cold temperatures and a mix of rain, sleet, and snow are likely to continue until dusk today in Quay County and surrounding areas, according to the National Weather Service.

Treacherous driving condition are expected to persist toward dusk. Toning, a 20 percent chance of snow before 11 p.m. Areas of freezing fog after 11 p.m. Mostly cloudy with a low around 15. East wind 5 to 10 miles per hour, becoming south after midnight.
