Chief Deputy Clerk Ellen White, left, waits for County Clerk Veronica Mares to draw a card for absent county commissioner candidates Tuesday in order to determine ballot order.
Eight candidates made Quay County Sheriff the most popular position for which candidates filed for the June 3 primary election on Tuesday.
Incumbent Sheriff Joe Schallert is not running. Six Democrats and two Republicans filed to be on the ballot in the sheriff's primary.
In the only other contested race, two Republicans filed for the District 3 County Commission seat now held by Brad Bryant of San Jon.
