Just about all of Tucumcari High School’s 2014 graduating class gathered near the top of Tucumcari Mountain to put a new coat of lime-and-water whitewash on the T on May 21.
They rode up to the T in four-wheel drive vehicles, many driven by parent volunteers, for a day of climbing up and down on the rocks of the T on a steep slope just below the cliffs of Tucumcari Mountain’s summit.
As usual, volunteers of the Tucumcari Fire Department brought a tanker truck and stretched a fire hose to about a third of the way up the T, then set up a bucket brigade of seniors to transfer buckets up and down the T. The buckets were then poured as needed to brighten the white of the T.
Jessica Elebario, one of the event’s organizers, said all but about three members of the class showed up to help out.
