Tennis ball-size hail, flooding reported in Quay County, but no tornadoes

Tennis ball-size hail was reported eight miles southwest of Tucumcari at about 5:45 p.m. Saturday, accumulating to 2.5 inches, according to Amanda Martin, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service. Quarter- to half-dollar-size hail fell on Tucumcari from about 7:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Martin said, and flooding was reported in Nara Visa.

The nearest tornado to Quay County was spotted at Cuervo in Guadalupe County, with several tornados seen in Curry County, including Clovis.

Today's NWS forecast calls for scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Some storms could be severe, with large hail and damaging winds. Partly sunny, with a high near 79. East wind 10 to 15 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
