Former Logan graduate wins internship

Rylee Stenberg, a former resident of Tucumcari and a Logan High School graduate, is working as an intern in the Leadership Internship program for Think New Mexico.

Think New Mexico as a nonpartisan, results-oriented think tank, according to founder and chief executive officer Fred Nathan.

Previously, Stenberg interned with the American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico, focusing on marriage equality and immigration policy, and served for two years as president of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars of NMSU.

She is a senior studying government, law & society at New Mexico State University, where she is a senator in the Associated Students of NMSU.

Stenberg is one of four New Mexico students chosen from 25 to 30 applicants to serve as interns with Think New Mexico, according to Nathan.

Interns are chosen based on their academic performance, their interest in public policy, and their commitment to pursuing a career in public service in New Mexico, Nathan said.

Students who participate in the internship program have the opportunity to meet current and former state leaders and participate in the research and development of policy reform proposals and legislation, Nathan said.

Former Leadership Interns include state Senator Jacob Candelaria (D-Albuquerque) and Jake Wellman, New Mexico's 2011 Truman Scholar, who was nominated by Governor Martinez and confirmed by the New Mexico Senate as a Student Regent of the University of New Mexico.
