There will be two days of local events to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday this weekend in Quay County.

Independence Day festivities will kick off at 8 p.m., Friday, Independence Day, with a street dance in Logan and a fireworks show at 9 p.m., in Tucumcari.

This will be the third year the Logan/Ute Lake Chamber of Commerce holds the street dance that will feature live performances by the Lubbock-based Hogg Maulies with fellow Lubbock musician Danny Cadra as the night's opening act.

This year's street dance is projected to be larger than the previous two Fourth of July dances, said Courtney Neece, secretary of the Logan Chamber of Commerce.

Tucumcari’s annual Elks Lodge fireworks display will begin at 9 p.m., Friday at the Elk's Lodge and the community is invited to see the show, said Phillip Griggs, Elks fireworks coordinator.

Griggs said the Elks Lodge and the City of Tucumcari have split the cost of the fireworks as they have done in the past.

In Logan, the celebration continues on Saturday with a parade at 10 a.m. that will feature entries from local residents, organizations and businesses. The theme for the parade will be honoring veterans.

The deadline for the parade entry is at 8 a.m. Saturday. Parade participants will gather behind the Budget Inn Motel.

The events conclude with the Fireworks at dark at Windy Point in Ute Lake State Park. The display is sponsored by the Logan/Ute Lake Chamber of Commerce, Logan Bass Club, Village of Logan and the Village of Logan's Lodger's Tax Board.
