The Logan Lady Longhorns won the Tucumcari Rattlers volleyball tournament Saturday, sweeping the Santa Rosa Lady Lions in three sets at the Snake Pit.

“I was very pleased with their effort,” said Robert Young, Lady Longhorns head coach.

Young said his team gained a lot from the tournament especially in the championship match against the Lady Lions. He said the speed of the Lady Lions attack showed him that the Lady Longhorns need to work on better floor defense. The Lady Lions also attack well by getting a lot of balls in position, Young said.

“We thought the tournament was great and gave us a chance to play against several quality teams,” Young said.

Young also said the Lady Longhorns will work on consistency in their serving, which will allow them to set the tone of the game.

The Lady Rattlers “did a good job during the tournament. They are a young team but played well against some tough competition,” said Lawrence Sena, Lady Rattlers head coach.

Sena said the Lady Rattlers passing was off during the tournament. Normally, he said, the Lady Rattlers rate their pass accuracy from 1 to 3, with 3 the highest, and saw far too many 1s. He said the team will work on limiting unforced errors, making the other team earn their points.

Sena said in preparation for San Jon on Saturday, the Lady Rattlers will work on ball control to get the passes where they want them to go, and execute the game they want to play on offense. He said they will also work on defensive timing, which was just a bit off during the tournament. The Lady Rattlers, he said, did read the sets and feet right but were caught out of position.

“The next two week will tell a lot for us,” Sena said. “We want to progress in our abilities and if we bring our ‘A’ game, the next three games should be wins for us.”
