Latin Comedy Jam’s success prompts second show

Over 300 Tucumcari and Quay County residents were delighted by the performances in the Latin Comedy Jam Saturday night at the Tucumcari Convention Center.

The performers had a great time, too, and are already planning a return engagement.

“It was an excellent show. I really hope they come back and put on another one,” said Matt Guillen, Tucumcari resident.

The show featured the comedy of Roberto Rodriquez, Jerry Garcia and Dillon Garcia who took the stage in 25 minute segments that mixed Latino lifestyle punch lines with material designed to get chuckles out of everyone.

“We want to reach everyone, which is why my comedy and that of the other comics is universal,” said Jerry Garcia.

The show’s producer, Mike Acquisto-Gotti, said he wanted to thank the show’s sponsors and the residents of Tucumcari and Quay County for such a warm reception.

“I am so glad that people are enjoying the show,” he said. “In fact, that is the main purpose of this show.”

Acquisto-Gotti spent the majority of his time working with the sound crew and watching the crowds react to the comics.

“I have seen and heard these jokes a million times so I know the material,” Acquisto-Gotti said. “What I am looking for every night is to make sure people are laughing and having a good time.”

The comics related, engaged and incorporated audience members into their routines.

“I appreciate all of the laughter,”said Roberto Rodriquez. “Tucumcari residents are an amazing group of people to perform for.”

Garcia, a former resident of Albuquerque, said he loves to perform in New Mexico, “back to the state with the best green chili and people.”

The show had an excellent turnout and people who attended had great comments, said Mercedes Rudisill, convention center director. Rudisill said the show went so well,a second show is planned for Feb. 21.

“We got such an amazing vibe and feedback from this audience that we want to put on another show in Tucumcari as quickly as possible,” Acquisto-Gotti said.

“I absolutely loved it and would like to see something like this come to Tucumcari every year,” said Luisa Otero, Tucumcari resident.

Acquisto-Gotti said that the second show will feature three new comics and may include a fourth act.
