Tucumcari, Logan prepare for homecoming contests

The (0-4) Tucumcari Rattlers look for their first win while the (4-0) Logan Longhorns seek to remain perfect in both of their homecoming games and the (3-1) Grady San Jon Coyotes host Clovis Christian in week five of the high school football season.

11-Man

The Tucumcari Rattlers’ homecoming match-up will be against the 2-1 Fort Sumner/House Foxes.

The Foxes come into the game following Saturday’s 60-6 rout of McCurdy while the Rattlers are coming off a 30-6 loss to the Dexter Demons.

“I have told the guys that the Foxes are well coached and can tackle and block very well,” said Wayne Ferguson, Rattlers head coach.

Ferguson said he has stressed to his team that the Foxes might not be as large as the teams they have played previously, but they certainly can not be taken for granted. He said the Rattlers need to go into Friday’s game with the right mind set, ready to take care of business and not just expect a win.

Game time: 7 p.m., Friday at Rattler Stadium.

8-Man

The Longhorns will also be holding their homecoming this Saturday against the (2-2) Cloudcroft Bears.

“I have seen some film on the Bears. They’re program has had a rough start and is rebuilding after dropping down from 11-man this year,” said Kene Terry, Longhorns head coach.

Terry said the Bears program is well coached and has done a great turn around in a short time with few players on their roster. He said it looks to be a very good game certainly not one the Longhorn’s would ever take for granted.

The Longhorns have a lot of momentum going into Saturday’s game after the 47-38 win against their district opponent the Melrose Buffaloes Friday in Logan.

The Bears are coming of a hard 59-6 loss to the Tatum Coyotes a team the Longhorns beat earlier in the season 54-16.

“We are playing great as a team and the boys have a lot of faith in each other,” Terry said.

Terry said the team continues to improve through the season revealing stronger combination of attacks on offense and different defensive leaders each week as they take the field. He said each of them is stepping up making a mark for this football team. Its not a situation where you have a few talented players everyone on this team contributes in practice and on the field come game time.

“There is a lot of support from the team both on the field and during practices,” Terry said.

Game time 7 p.m., Saturday at Logan

6-man

The Grady/San Jon Coyotes will host the (2-1) Clovis Christian Eagles Friday at San Jon

The Coyotes are fresh off Friday’s 30-26 win over the Reserve Mountaineers and the Eagles lost 62-47 against the Lazbuddie Longhorns from Lazbuddie, Texas.

Coyotes coach Bobby Gomez was not available for comment.
