Tucumcari man charged with sex crimes against minor

A Tucumcari man is facing four felony counts of sexual penetration of a minor.

Tucumcari police arrested Ryan Carl, 25, Tuesday night and booked him into the Quay County Detention Center on two second-degree felony counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor and two fourth-degree counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor.

Carl was arraigned Wednesday before Quay County Magistrate Court Joel Garnett, where he entered a plea of not guilty.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Carl remained in QCDC on a $100,000 cash bond.

According to Quay County Magistrate Court documents:

• On Sept. 2, Carl unlawfully and intentionally caused a 14-year old girl to engage in sex acts.

• On Sept. 6, Tucumcari Police Sgt. Paul Bell was made aware of the sexual assault and began an investigation.

• On Sept. 18, An interview of the victim was conducted by The Oasis Children’s Advocacy Center, Clovis, and was witnessed by Tucumcari police Sgt. Russell Shafer, Tenth Judicial District Attorney’s Office Investigator Matt Montoya and Suzi Moya.

• Upon further investigation, a warrant was issued for Carl’s arrest charging him with the criminal sexual penetration of a minor counts.
