Tucumcari FCCLA students learn leadership skills at state conference

A total of 13 Tucumcari Middle School and High School students in FCCLA programs participated in the New Mexico Fall Leadership Conference for Career and Technical Student Organizations Oct. 27 at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Albuquerque.

They were among more than 300 outstanding career and technical education students who participated in workshops developing essential leadership skills in the areas of strategic planning, effective communication, team-building, and professionalism.

Six students from Tucumcari Middle School FCCLA group and seven students from Tucumcari High's FCCLA program, (including two state officers) represented Tucumcari at the conference.

“We are very proud of these students' accomplishments and dedication to developing their leadership skills to ensure a better future for themselves and New Mexico”, said Jodie Lamm, the Middle School FCCLA Advisor. “The students were very well behaved and had fun while learning and meeting new people. It was a great experience for them all.”

TMS participants included Lamm, Nadia-Ranae Lujan, Natalia Gutierrez, Kelli Lamm, Destiny Vigil, Natalie Hayes and Arissa Griego.

THS participants included Advisor Joyce Garrett, State officers Laura Evans and Sydney Goldston, Leslie Reyes, Sarah Silva, Romy Diaz, Michael Shelton and Mark Gutierrez.
