Roads difficult, snow to let up late this morning in Quay County area

Road and weather update, 9:15 a.m. Nov. 16:The New Mexico Department of Transportation reports that U.S. 54 has been closed from Tucumcari to the Texas state line due to an accident at the state line. The department notes difficult driving on the following roads: • Interstate 40 from Dahlia to Glenrio. • U.S. 54 from Tucumcari to Nara Visa (even before closure). • State Highway 104 from Tucumcari to Las Vegas. The department warns that secondary roads in these areas also have difficult driving conditions today. The National Weather Service expects light to moderate snow will continue to fall across the eastern plains and central mountains through 10 am. today. The main focus area will be along and south of I-40 to Lincoln county. An additional one-half to 1.5 inches will fall in this area. Visibilities at times will be reduced to a half-mile.

A frigid cold night is expected with a number of locations approaching or exceeding record low temperatures.

From Monday through Saturday, no hazardous weather is expected currently, the weather service said.
