The Logan Lady Longhorn’s volleyball season may have ended Saturday with a loss to Ramah in the 2A state tournament semi-finals, but Head Coach Robert Young and the upcoming underclassmen said they are excited about the future.

Young said the Lady Longhorns have made it to the state tournament two years in a row, and in each year they have shown great improvement. This year the team made it to the semi-finals and lost to the now 2A state champions Ramah Lady Mustangs.

“You want to win a championship for your seniors,” Young said. “Even though they didn’t win it all this year, these seniors can hold their heads high because they played right along with the best of them.”

Young said the team will lose seven seniors; Heidi Strong, Alix Vigil, Shana Sorrels, Destiny Bolin, Lauryn Robertson and Emily Collins and the teamwill miss what each of these players brought to the court. They made improvements all season long that you could see on the court, he said.

Young said one of the positive notes is that he will have five returning players who have state tournament experience. He said those stepping up into leadership roles as seniors next year will be great assets to the team.

“I think regardless of the outcome we accomplished a lot of our goals both as a team and individually,” said Kippi Webb, junior. “We became closer as a team and each of us made improvements throughout the season.”Webb said each year the team works harder to keep moving forward, and she is excited about the team’s outlook for next season.

Young said the underclassmen also showed much development during the season, including Kaylee Foote, a freshman.

“Foote made some great plays in the quarter-finals match against Fort Sumner,” Young said. “She is a freshman is already playing at a high caliber.”

Continued growth by these young players, Young said, will strengthen the program.

The Lady Longhorns end the season with a record of 20-4, a District 6 championship and a semi-finals appearance in the 2A state volleyball tournament.
