Tucumcari ALCO store to close; all ALCO stores liquidating

All ALCO Stores, Inc., stores, including the outlet in Tucumcari, will close their doors after the company declared bankruptcy, according to an advertisement on the home page of the ALCO Stores website Friday.

All merchandise is on liquidation sale, the advertisement said, and store hours will remain unchanged.

The ALCO store in Tucumcari displayed a large “store closing” sign Friday at its entrance.

The advertisement on the corporate website’s home page said, “Total liquidation savings...” on all merchandise at all of ALCO’s 198 stores in 23 states but indicated all discounts and rewards points would be recognized through Dec. 4.

Store fixtures and furniture are also for sale, the advertisement said.

Tucumcari’s ALCO store managers declined to comment on Friday. ALCO corporate officials could not be reached.

ALCO and Kmart, on opposite sides of Tucumcari along Route 66, are the largest general merchandise stores in the city.

ALCO Stores declared bankruptcy on Oct. 12.
