The Tucumcari Middle School FCCLA has just finished its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, collecting items from Tucumcari Middle School and Tucumcari Elementary School for the Ministry of Hope, a local charity.

While elementary school officials did not count the items collected there, the middle school collected nearly 1,600 items, which Ministry of Hope volunteers picked up from the schools on Friday.

Jodi Lamm, FCCLA advisor at the middle school, said she is “very proud of how well the students responded, as they brought in 1,595 items to be donated to the Ministry of Hope.”

“All of the students were very generous, and should be congratulated,” she said.

Collections were competitive at the middle school, she said, and winning classrooms were chosen based on number of items collected per student.

This year's winning class will get pizza, popcorn and a movie. The winner is Terri Dunlap's 5th period class, which brought in 319 items with an average of 16.8 items per student, Lamm reported.

The 2nd place class will get candy and a movie. Taya Davis's 5th period class, which brought in an average of 14.44 items per student.

The 3rd place class, Bryan Dunlap’s fifth period class, will get popcorn and a movie. The class collected 13.6 items per student.

The 4th place class will get a movie. The winner is Lendy Borden's 5th period class, which brought in 10.4 items per student.
