Judge thanks
volunteer attorneys
On December 11, 2014, the County Clerks in De Baca, Quay, and Harding County were required to conduct a recount of the ballots cast in the race for state land commissioner.
By law, the judge, or an attorney designated by the judge, is required to be present during the recount so that they can proceed. The final decision of when the recount would occur and what time it would start was not made until December 10, 2014.
On that short notice, three attorneys stepped up and agreed to devote a day
of their time to act as the Court's designee. They knew when they stepped up that there would be no compensation, and that they could end up in the middle of a controversy if any issues arose in any of the counties.
The court and the public thank Max Best who took part in the De Baca
County recount; Tim O'Quinn, who took part in the Quay County recount; and
Arthur Bustos, who took part in the Harding County recount.
Without their willingness to step up and provide free services, the recount could not have occurred.
Sincerely,
Albert J. Mitchell, Jr.
District Court Judge
