Roads and weather: Fair to difficult driving; wind advisory in effect

Road and weather update, Tuesday, Dec. 23:

Road conditions at 7 a.m.:

Interstate 40, Texas state line to Newkirk, fair, then difficult to Clines Corners.

State Route 209, Tucumcari to Broadview, difficult. Broadview to Clovis, fair.

State route 469, Grady to Logan, difficult

Wind advisory:

A wind advisory will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Quay, Curry, San Miguel and Harding counties, according to the National Weather Service.

Sustained north winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour with occasional gusts of 40 to 50 m.p.h. are expected, the weather service said.

Winds are expected gain strength this morning, peaking in early to mid-afternoon before slowly tapering off in the late afternoon and evening, the weather service said.

Blowing dust or snow could limit visibility.

Strong cross winds will be hazardous for large and high profile vehicles traveling east or west. Strong gusts could produce flying debris.

The weather service advises caution while traveling today. Sudden gusts, especially cross-winds, could cause loss of control of vehicles, the weather service said.
