Quay Roads remain hazardous; wind chills to stay below or just above zero

Road and weather update, 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31:The New Mexico Department of Transportation reports the following driving conditions:

Interstate 40, Tucumcari to Texas State line: Fair. Roads are icy in spots. Fog in areas. Watch for snow plows in the area. Please drive with caution, reduce speed and obey all posted traffic signs.

New Mexico 469, Logan to Grady: Difficult. Roads are snow packed and icy. Watch for snow plows in the area. Please drive with caution, reduce speed and obey all posted traffic signs.

NM 104, Las Vegas to Tucumcari: Difficult. Roads are snow packed and icy. Visibility is limited due to moderate snow. Watch for snow plows in the area. Please drive with caution, reduce speed and obey all posted traffic signs.

NM 209, Grady to Tucumcari): Fair. Roads are dry. Visibility is good with clear skies. Snow dusting roadway. Please drive with caution, reduce speed and obey all posted traffic signs.

NM 268, from Ragland south: Fair. Roads are dry. Visibility is good with clear skies. Snow dusting roadway. Please drive with caution, reduce speed and obey all posted traffic signs.

NM 252, Ragland to House and south: Fair. Roads are dry. Visibility is good with clear skies. Snow dusting roadway. Please drive with caution, reduce speed and obey all posted traffic signs. This event will be updated as it changes.

The National Weather Service predicts wind chill temperatures will remain from below zero to single digits over the eastern plains today. The weather service also forecasts periods of light snow along with fog for the eastern plains and the central mountains. Additional snow accumulations are expected to reach about a half-inch. Visibilities of 1 to 3 miles in light snow and fog will be common. Travel through the region will be hazardous with winter driving conditions, the weather service said.
