Diabetic cooking classes scheduled; preregistration needed

The Quay County Extension Office is sponsoring a series of four classes to help people with diabetes learn to cook healthy meals.

The series, called Kitchen Creations, will be taught by Brenda Bishop, Quay County Extension Home Economist and Jessie Robinson, retired nutritionist.

The classes cover important information for people with diabetes about meal planning, serving sizes, food safety, reading food labels, balancing carbohydrates, and more, Bishop said.

Participants will receive a manual of useful information and two cookbooks.

During each class, participants will prepare and sample a variety of dishes.

“Even if you have never cooked, you will enjoy the cooking school and the way you feel as you use the information you learn,” Bishop said.

Preregistration is required, and persons with diabetes will receive priority placement, Bishop said.

Classes will be held Feb. 4, 11, 18 and 25.

Each class begins at 10 a.m. at the Terry Turner Building, 216 E. Center St., Tucumcari.

Preregistration and more information are available by calling the Quay Cooperative Extension office at (575) 461-0562.
