Mesalands signs credit pact with SNHU

Special to QCS

Mesalands Community College students will be able to transfer up to 90 credit hours to Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) under an agreement between the colleges signed last week, according to a news release from Mesalands.

The Mesalands students will be able to transfer credit to the Manchester, New Hampshire, college toward bachelor’s degrees in communication, psychology, business management, general studies, or technical management through SNHU’s College of Online and Continuing Education.

In addition, SNHU will accept a minimum of 60 credit hours for graduates of Mesalands’ Wind Energy Technology toward an SNHU bachelor’s degree in Technical Management.

Mesalands graduates, employees and their immediate family, will also receive a 10 percent tuition reduction at SNHU.

SNHU, a private, nonprofit institution accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and several other accrediting bodies, has an enrollment of 50,000 students.

Its online classes have an average of 20 students per class. SNHU offers more than 200 certificate, undergraduate and graduate programs. SNHU also has one of the lowest tuition rates in the nation at $320 per credit hour.

The agreement “really provides a pathway for our students to earn a bachelor's degree and beyond,” Newsom said. “It is our desire that we can continue and offer more degree opportunities for our students.”

Newsom said SNHU met his three priorities to allow credit transfers: transferability, affordability, and accessibility.

“I want our students to be able to take these courses online,” Newsom said. “Southern New Hampshire University met all of these requirements and much more.”

Following the completion of any associate of arts or associate of applied science degree at Mesalands, students may also transfer all of their credits towards an online bachelor of arts degree in General Studies at SNHU, also available online, the news release said.

Military students enrolling at SNHU may also transfer up to 90 credit hours for a bachelor's degree with unlimited College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), Defense Activity for Non Traditional Education Support (DANTES), and Excelsior credits, provided the student meets residency requirements, the news release said.
