Job fair will help fill vacancies

Staff Report

Tucumcari City government’s recent difficulty filling some jobs has inspired plans for a career fair to be held April 29 at the Tucumcari Convention Center.

Tucumcari City Manager Jared Langenegger presented plans for the career fair to the Tucumcari City Commission Thursday and County Manager Richard Primrose presented the idea to the Quay County Commission at a special meeting Friday.

Recent vacancies for a building code enforcement officer and police officers have gone unanswered, Langenegger said, which sparked the idea for a career fair.

Primrose was quick to join in planning the event, and they decided to invite Mesalands Community College and Presbyterian Healthcare Services, which operates the Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital, to be co-sponsors.

The county, too, has had problems in finding corrections personnel for the Quay County Detention Center, Primrose said.

Invitations to the job fair are being sent to state agencies, banks and other employers for space at the fair, Langenegger said, and the event will be marketed to students at Clovis Commmunity College, west Texas colleges and Eastern New Mexico University.
