The Tenth Judicial District Attorney’s office, Quay County Sheriff’s Department and Tucumcari Police assisted in investigation and arrest Tuesday of a Clayton man who has been charged with felony sexual contact and other charges against a Tucumcari resident, according to a press release from District Attorney Tim Rose.
The Clayton man, George Vigil, Jr., was charged with criminal sexual penetration, a first-degree felony--the most serious, witness intimidation , and battery against a mentally handicapped victim who lives in Tucumcari, the news release said.
Also assisting in the investigation and arrest were the state attorney general’s office and the Union County Sheriff’s Department.
The arrest ended months of investigation that began in June 14, 2014, according to the district attorney’s office. The case began when Tucumcari Police responded to a call from the victim.
Due to the nature of the offenses apparently committed against the victim, the state attorney general’s Elder Abuse Division assisted in the investigation, the press release said.
