March 27, 1970: Tucumcari saw about 10 inches of snow to kick off Easter weekend. Most motels in the area were reported full and police were busy helping stranded motorists along the highways. Siblings Bruce and Sandra Nutt, with help from friend Pat Hinton, created a 6-foot snow bunny and colored it pink with food coloring.
March 28, 1965: More than 5,000 racing fans came out for the Ute Dam Regatta at Logan. The Tucumcari Daily News reported 24 boat racers, including two national champions, competed on the 2.5-mile course. An Albuquerque racer, Skip Miller, took home $400 with two first-place finishes. “It seemed he had barely passed the audience when he was back again and approaching the west turn with a technique nobody seemed to master except him,” Daily News Sports Editor Bob Kettler wrote.
March 27, 1940: H.D. Marlin, pastor of First Methodist Church in Tucumcari, had a letter published in the Tucumcari Daily News expressing concerns about a possible horse-racing track coming to town. “Money lost gambling will not pay grocery bills,” he wrote.

March 28, 1940: Stephens’ Bakery, at 117 S. Second St., offered “the best in bakery products” and a weekly invitation to a lucky newspaper reader. In this case, J.A. Willis was invited to call the bakery — at 235 — for two free loaves of Jersey cream special bread.

March 28, 1970: Naomi Hazel Bradley, 53, died at Trigg Memorial Hospital after a three-week illness. She was a lifetime resident of Quay County, having been born in Norton and attending Norton schools. She had lived on the Bradley ranch southeast of San Jon the past 22 years. She had worked as a desk clerk at the Aruba Motel.
