Local branches of the Wells Fargo bank in Quay Curry and Roosevelt County will be hosting a Teen Financial Education Day’s on Friday and Saturday to help the youth of our area build a strong financial future.
“We’re here to help our communities to succeed financially,” said Ben White, Wells Fargo north east district manager Northeast.
White said it is important for Wells Fargo to have this financial education day to help our youth to understand the need to a strong financial education.
“The younger we start the better,” White said.
These events will help educate students and parents about money management, establishing credit and preparing to pay for college, bank representatives said, and free financial reviews will also be provided, said Brett Welcher, Wells Fargo Spokeman.
Welcher said that all 93 branches will be hosting these education classes for the youth in their communities.
White said team members at each branch will be available to sit down with the parents and their children to discuss tips and tools the bank offers to help in establishing a budget, saving tips, and overall how the young can learn to managing their money. He said for the younger children they can learn about savings accounts and how they help set aside money for them to have when they are older to enjoy things including vacations and luxuries when they are older.
White said for those teens about to graduate high school and preparing to move onto college our team members can teach them about the path to good credit. He said with tools and tips from Wells Fargo we can help the teen to understand how important it is to build a strong credit foundation at this point in their life. That would include applying for a credit card or a loan to purchase a car, or setting aside money in a savings account to help pay for household supplies, rent or even Spring break funds.
White said the overall goal of these education days is to teach the children and teens the importance of exercising good financial responsibility year round.
“At Wells Fargo, we’re committed to the financial success of our customers and the communities we serve,” said Lisa Riley, Well Fargo’s N.M./Western border regional president. “We’re excited to have an opportunity to invest in the financial future of students by hosting this event at our New Mexico banking stores.
Riley said, last year, Wells Fargo contributed almost $275,000 to support education in New Mexico. She said employees across the country donated $16.2 million of their own money to schools, which was then matched dollar-for-dollar by Wells Fargo.
The Teen Financial Education Day in Tucumcari will be held from 9 a.m., to 6 p.m., Friday at the Wells Fargo bank on the 300 block of South First Street. In Curry and Roosevelt Counties the event will be held from 9 a.m., to 1 p.m., Saturday at bank branches in Clovis and Portales.
Teens and parents visiting the stores will find:
• Special seminars on budgeting, saving, and managing money using Wells Fargo’s Hands on Banking curriculum.
• Overviews of Wells Fargo’s Get College Ready website and its 2014 CollegeSTEPS magazine.
• “Planning for College” and “Your Financial Aid Journey in 5 Steps” resource guides, along with other college preparation materials.
