Woods named to legislative interim committees

New Mexico State Senator Pat Woods (R-Broadview), who represents Quay County, was reappointed to serve as a voting member on three legislative committees while the legislature is not in session, according to Diane Kinderwater, spokesperson for the New Mexico Senate.

He was also reappointed as an advisory member on three additional committees, Kinderwater said.

The Legislative Council, which is made up of the leadership of both the Senate and House as well as additional legislators, made the appointments this week in Santa Fe.

Senator Woods was reappointed to serve as a voting member on the Economic and Rural Development Committee, the Water and Natural Resources Committee and the Jobs Council. These are “interim committees” that operate when the legislature is not in session.

Woods was also reappointed as an advisory member to the Legislative Education Study Committee, Public School Capital Outlay Oversight Task Force and Revenue Stabilization and Tax Policy Committee, all of which are interim panels.

Interim committees examine the effectiveness of state government, including the operations of all of its departments and agencies, and how operations can be improved to serve New Mexico residents. The committees also consider proposed legislation for endorsement.

When the legislature is in session, Senator Woods serves on the Senate Conservation Committee and the Senate Education Committee.

Senator Wood’s District 7 includes Curry, Quay, and Union Counties in New Mexico. Of the 42-seat Senate, Woods is one of 18 Republican Senators. There are 24 Democrats serving in the New Mexico Senate.
