May 8, 1975: Bertha Butler of J.C. Penny had been voted Clerk of the Month by Tucumcari residents.
May 9, 1955: James Kincheloe of Nashville, Tennessee, had been named superintendent of Tucumcari schools.
Board members agreed to give Kincheloe a three-year contract at $9,000 per year.
He was selected from among 15 applicants to succeed L.H. Rhodes who resigned after 18 years.
May 10, 1975: Police reports showed tires on multiple Tucumcari-area vehicles were slashed over the weekend.
City Manager Alan Morris reported a tire on his car was punctured with an ice pick.
Leo Lopez of 821 S. Monroe reported tires on two of his vehicles were slashed.
Otis Waterfield said two tires on a General Service Jeep were cut, along with a tire on a horse trailer.
May 13, 1975: Cleo Kent had won the 50-yard dash, 75-yard dash and high jump in the Zia school track and field competition. Her winning high jump was 4-feet, 3 inches
Luther Evans dominated the boys competition, winning the 75-yard dash and high jump, finishing second in the 100-yard dash and finishing third in the 50-yard dash.

May 13, 1960: Calhoun’s department store in Tucumcari hosted a Friday the 13th sale.
Pedal pushers, skirts, shorts and shirts regularly priced $8.98 were on sale for $4.
Costume jewelry was 49 cents.
“Walk under a ladder and come — you’ll be lucky,” a newspaper advertisement read.

May 7, 1975: Kurt Sumruld, 9, died in the Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston after an illness.
He had attended Zia school and was an active Cub Scout.
He was buried in Tucumcari Memorial Park.
