Staff Report
A Tucumcari resident was transported to Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital with burn injuries sustained Wednesday in a house fire on the 600 block of East Smith Avenue in Tucumcari.
At 1:15 p.m., firefighters responded to a two-story building on fire on the 600 block of East Smith Avenue, said Fire Chief Shane Warner.
Warner said units arriving on the scene advised the additional units responding by radio that it was the residence at 614 East Smith Avenue that was on fire. He said firefighters located a man in the back yard of the residence suffering from burns.
Warner said firefighters were told the man owned the residence. He said he didn't know the man's identity, but confirmed that no one else was in the residence when it caught fire.
The condition of the man is not known at this time.
Warner said it took firefighters four hours to extinguish the fire that destroyed the residence. He said units stayed on the scene until the State Fire Marshal’s Office arrived from Santa Fe.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
