Former Plateau Wireless customers in Quay County have no local branches where they can pay their bill or service their cell phones following the sale to AT&T.
Plateau Telecommunications announced on May 20 that it had finalized the sale of its wireless assets to AT&T.
There has been no opening of a temporary or permanent AT&T franchise locally for customers to make payments or bring cell phones in for servicing.
Customers can call 1-877-PLATEAU to make a payment over the phone or set up an automatic bill pay, said Launa Waller, a regulatory manager for Plateau.
Waller said the Plateau stores in Logan and Tucumcari cannot accept wireless payments. She said customers in Logan can drop off their payments and they will be sent to office in Clovis for processing.
Waller said that customers still can pay their Plateau Internet, fiber and cable bills at the local outlets. She said if customers are in the Clovis area, they can make a payment at the wireless store, at North Plains Mall.
“The Plateau store in Clovis will continue to serve former Plateau wireless customers through the transition period, which we expect will continue into 2016,” said AT&T spokesman Scott Huscher. “In the meantime, customer service is also available to former Plateau wireless customers via the Internet, phone, email and mail.”
Waller said for those customers with an issue with their wireless device they can call 1-877-PLATEAU and speak to someone in the customer care department. She said any timeline for the opening of an AT&T outlet in Quay County to accept payments, service phones or change plans would be an AT&T customer care question.
Waller said Plateau will continue to provide customer service during a transition period, through its customer help line and the operation of stores in Clovis, Plainview and Levelland.
The sale, first announced in June 2014, received Federal Communications Commission approval on May 8.
The sale includes Plateau’s wireless operations and assets throughout New Mexico and Texas, and its 37,500 cellular customers.
Plateau declined to release terms of the sale, and directed questions about when AT&T would take over those assets to AT&T. Plateau representatives added that AT&T would reach out soon to its new customer base.
