The Mesalands Community College’s Board of Trustee approved the plan of study for the phlebotomy program set to begin this in fall.
Mesalands Vice President of Academic Affairs Natalie Gillard presented the plan of study to earn the occupation certification to the board of trustees during Monday’s regular meeting.
In December, Mesalands announced the re-establishment of the CNA and and addition of a phlebotomy program with the help of a $553,223 grant from the Trade Adjustment Assistant Community College and Career Training competitive grant program.
Both programs are part of Mesalands Allied Health department.
Gillard said Mesalands has partnered with Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital to develop the program. She said the program will offer a certification in a semester, allowing students to gain a marketable skill in a short time.
The courses at Mesalands also would be beneficial to students who choose to continue their health career education at a nearby institution, such as Clovis Community College. Clovis CC offers licensed practical nurse (LPN) and registered nurse (RN) associate degrees, as well as health care assistant courses.

• Approved the adoption of the 2016-2020 Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan.
• Approved the updated Open Meetings Act Resolution.
• Approved purchase requisition forms and annual property and equipment leases.
• Review of Enrollment Management Plan-Spring 2015 Persistence Report.
• Contract confirmations: James C. Hyatt, Business Administration faculty; James Jones, director of Technology; Joel Kiser, art instructor; Jeanne Moralez, Allied Health instructor; Tom Morris, director of Career Services, Persistence and Student Success; Andrew Swapp, Wind Energy Technology instructor.
