One dead after crash on Interstate 40 near Tucumcari

New Mexico State Police responded to the scene of a fatal vehicle crash that occurred at mile marker 347 on Interstate 40 east of Tucumcari.

At 1:10 p.m., officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle accident. The initial investigation revealed an eastbound passenger vehicle crossed the center median and collided head-on with a westbound tractor-trailer.

The driver of the passenger vehicle sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.

The names of those involved are being withheld pending next of kin notification.

This crash is still under investigation.
