July 16, 1975: Eli “Billy” Dominguez tossed a no-hitter to lead Tucumcari’s Senior League All-Stars to a 9-1 victory over Friona.
Dominguez struck out 15 while walking five in the game.
Dominguez also had two hits and scored the game’s first run.
July 21, 1965: Tucumcari’s economy was recovering after a tough winter and spring, officials said.
A report showed Quay County residents received $5,578 in unemployment insurance payments during June.
That number was down from $8,388 in May, and $13,644 in April.
February saw a record $16,502 unemployment payments, employment office Manager Cannon Visor said.
July 18, 1950: Tucumcari dog catcher Sam Perry said business was “slow.”
Perry reported he had “disposed of only 15 or 16 dogs since he accepted the appointment last week,” the Tucumcari Daily News reported.
Six licensed dogs had been returned to their owners before the three-day waiting period was over, Perry said.
Non-licensed dogs were disposed of immediately after pickup, he said.

July 19, 1955: Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jennings, who lived on a ranch in the Quay Valley, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
The couple, who moved to Quay County from Oklahoma in 1906, had eight children.
July 17, 1945: J.M. Hodges, a former probate judge and Quay County commissioner, celebrated his 89th birthday.
Hodges came to the area in 1906 and lived in the Norton community before recently moving in with his daughter, Mrs. Gus Morrison, at 719 S. Adams.
