Western, Reining, and Barrels and Poles classes will start at 8 a.m., Saturday. All events will be held in the Arena on the Quay County Fairgrounds. Admission is free.

The 2015 Quay County 4-H Rodeo will test the skills of the young cowboys and cowgirls competing this year.

The Rodeo begins at 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday, events include speed events such as barrels and poles, roping events such as break away and team roping, and rough stock events such as steer and bull riding.

Each night, the rodeo will be kicked off with the singing of the National Anthem by local vocalists and the posting of the colors. This year’s announcer will be Brad Hodges, a Quay County 4-H alumnus who spent many years as a 4-H rodeo participant.

The draw for many coming from the across the state to the rodeo is the quality of the events and prizes, said Brenda Bishop, Brenda Bishop, county extension agent. Bishop said thanks to the businesses in the county we provide saddles for the all-around winners, and belt buckles for the runner-up all-around winners as well as belt buckles for the rodeo event winners and specialty prizes for the horse show event winners.

Bishop said all Quay County 4-Hers and their parents are very busy during this weekend as they help with the many activities and run a concession stand. She said this makes our rodeo and horse show true family events as parents are working beside their children.

Bishop said in addition, there are more than 25 volunteers with no children in 4-H who help to make these events possible.
