Viewpoint: Don’t want your kids taught by a gay Boy Scouts leader, then quit

So the Boy Scouts of America have ended their ban on gay adult leaders and the nation is celebrating/gnashing teeth, depending on perspective.

From The New York Times:

• “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is deeply troubled by today’s vote,” said a statement issued by the church moments after the Scouts announced the new policy.

“When the leadership of the church resumes its regular schedule of meetings in August, the century-long association with scouting will need to be examined.”

From The Associated Press:

• The Human Rights Campaign, a national LGBT-rights organization, said the scouts didn’t go far enough since they still allow church-sponsored units to exclude gays.

“Discrimination should have no place in the Boy Scouts, period,” said the HRC’s president, Chad Griffin. “BSA officials should now demonstrate true leadership and begin the process of considering a full national policy of inclusion.”

This might be a good time to point out the Boy Scouts are a private organization.

They should be allowed to ban tall people if they want, and their actions will naturally reflect membership in their club.

We don’t have a God-given right to be a Boy Scout, and we’re not paying for the right through taxation.

Don’t want to be a Boy Scout now that the organization allows gay leaders? Quit.

There are plenty of other private groups and individuals willing to teach about knot-tying and wilderness survival, if that’s your thing. Find the one that best reflects your values and get out there and explore the world.

Just don’t forget the mosquito repellent. Those varmints don’t discriminate between conservatives, liberals or tall people.
