Lady Rattlers cross country on steady pace to district

Staff Report

The Tucumcari Lady Rattlers cross country team earned a second-place finish for the second time this season Saturday at Pecos.

“The girls continue to show improvement in their time with each competition, said Gary Hittson, Rattlers cross country coach.

Hittson said the course at Pecos may be the toughest course the team will run this season. He said from this point forward, it will not be the course but the competition they will have to overcome.

Hittson said the junior varsity Lady Rattlers cross country team has also been competing at a high level. He said he had three placers in Pecos: Amber Rivera, third place; Erin Encinias in ninth; and Aaliyah Brown in 15th.

Hittson said his team is taking a week off and won’t be required to run in the Fun Run, scheduled for Saturday in Tucumcari.

Hittson said he wants the teams to have a chance to rest and recover before competing in two weeks at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell.
