Volleyball teams overcome losses, work toward future

The Logan Lady Longhorns volleyball team, 11-2, won its third tournament of the season Saturday with a three-set sweep of the Lady Rams at Cimarron.

This tournament win comes a week after a second-place finish at the Fort Sumner Lady Vixen tournament. The Lady Longhorns lost in four sets to the Melrose Lady Buffaloes.

The loss to the Lady Buffaloes was the Lady Longhorns’ first of the season. It was followed with a second loss five days later in three sets to the Texico Lady Wolverines at Logan.

In the Cimarron tournament, the Lady Longhorns won all three matches, Dora, Quemado and Cimarron in three sets.

The Lady Longhorns’ next challenge is facing the Lady Lions, 6-3, at 7 p.m., Thursday at Santa Rosa.

The Lady Lions are riding a three-game win streak. Their last loss was on Sept. 12, against the Lady Buffaloes in three sets at Santa Rosa.

Game time: 7 p.m., Thursday at Santa Rosa.

The Tucumcari Lady Rattlers volleyball team, 2-6, continues to work on limiting service errors and defensive footwork.

The Lady Rattlers fell in three sets to the Dexter Lady Demons on Sept. 17 at the Snake Pit, where they continued to struggle with service errors and passes from the back. In several series of long volleys between the teams, the Lady Rattlers were able to get the ball back over the net following a bad pass. Although the Lady Demons were able to find the open spots for the kill.

The Lady Rattlers competed with the Estancia Lady Bears on Tuesday in Estancia. The score for this game was not available before publication.

On Saturday the Lady Rattlers will host the San Jon Lady Coyotes.

Game time: 2 p.m., Saturday at the Snake Pit.

The San Jon Lady Coyotes, 1-8, got their first win of the season on Saturday against the Mosquero/Roy Lady Pirates in Mosquero.

The Lady Coyotes took the match in the fifth set.

The Lady Coyotes lost the first set 25-15, won set two 25-20, lost set three 25-21, won set four 25-19, forcing the final set, which they won 15-11.
