The Tucumcari Lady Rattlers volleyball team beat the San Jon Lady Coyotes in four sets Saturday at the Snake Pit.

The Lady Rattlers, 3-7, had a strong performance in the 25-10 final set against the Lady Coyotes, who’ve lost 10 of their 11 games this season.

The game was won by a serving ace by Lady Rattlers’ Cyann Armijo.

The Lady Rattlers had several games get out of their reach due to serving errors but showed progress in correcting this issue. In the earlier sets, Lady Rattler Alyssa Martinez served seven aces.

“We just have to back one another up,” Martinez said. “We have to continue to improve on our serving to seal the win and make sure not to give the other team easy points.”

Armijo said the team has to remember that it “can’t give up once we are down or lose a set.”

The Lady Rattlers played against the Texico Lady Wolverines on Tuesday; the score was unavailable at press time.

Texico will provide a good test for the Lady Rattlers before they begin their district schedule, said Lawrence Sena, Lady Rattlers head coach.

The Lady Coyotes forced the Lady Rattlers to play a fourth set by winning the third set, 25-23.

Throughout the entire game the Lady Coyotes had several kills by Rylee Key and defensive digs by Rhianna Garcia.

“The Lady Coyotes have the heart, want and desire to be winners,” said Tyra Moore, Lady Coyotes head coach.
