Quay County commissioners are looking into the possibility of supporting a portion of the funding to bring the Santa Fe Animal Humane spay/neuter bus to Tucumcari once again.
Kathy McClelland, a member of the newly formed Paws and Claws Animal Rescue (formerly Tucumcari Animal Rescue) asked commissioners Monday for help in funding the bus’s return to Tucumcari.
McCLelland said bringing the bus to Tucumcari will help to address a major over population problem in Tucumcari and the county. She said the bus will be able to spay and neuter 25 to 50 pets during the two days it I in Tucumcari. The services will be offered at a discounted price that will be affordable by most of the residents. This will make an otherwise expensive procedure available at cost to the pet owners, McClelland added.
District 2 Commissioner Mike Cherry asked McClelland what the cost of the bus would be for the two days yet to be scheduled.
McClelland said the cost for the bus is $2,350 per day and said she is approaching the city and county for any support in funding they could give for the event.
Commission Chair Franklin McCasland said the commission will discuss the funding possibilities with County Manager Richard Primrose.
In other business, the commission.
• Approved the amendment of Resolution 8 showing a decrease in the EMS budget.
• Approved a proclamation declaring Oct. 19-23 as Red Ribbon Week in Quay County.
• Received a request from Quay County Treasurer Patsy Gresham about the possibility of submitting a request for proposal for the county’s banking services and the establishment of an investment advisory board.
• Approved Resolution 11 establishing the Quay County Flood Plain Management Measures.
• Held an executive session to discuss purchase, acquisition or disposal of real property or water rights and threatened or pending litigation; no action was taken.
