Coyotes, Rattlers, Longhorns begin district tournaments

The San Jon Lady Coyotes, Logan Lady Longhorns and Tucumcari Lady Rattlers will compete in district volleyball tournament games this week.

The Lady Rattlers (7-2, 4-2) will play the winner of Tuesday’s game between Raton and Clayton (results were not available at time of publication) 6 p.m., Thursday at the Snake Pit.

Currently seeded second in district, the Lady Rattlers were hard at work Monday preparing for both teams.

The Lady Rattlers will be ready to play either team that steps onto that court, said Lawrence Sena, Lady Rattlers head coach.

Sena said the game plan will not change based on who wins between Clayton and Raton. He said the Lady Rattlers will be focused on the task at hand and a continued run in the tournament.

The Rattlers have won twice against both Clayton in Raton, winning in five sets twice against Clayton and winning in four and three sets against Raton.

The winner of Thursday night’s game will travel Saturday to Santa Rosa for the district championship game.

Game time: 6 p.m, Thursday at the Snake Pit.

The Logan Lady Longhorns (16-4, 4-2) play host to a district tournament game Thursday against the winner of the Dora and Fort Sumner.
