The Eastern New Mexico Art Space will host a poetry and spoken word open microphone event and creative writing workshop this weekend in Tucumcari.
On Friday, seven guest poets from the New Mexico State Poetry Society will join local writers in reading their works at the open mic event 6:30 p.m., Friday at Art Space.
State society poets include Andi Penner, Ginny Gaskell, and national champion “slam” poet Zackary Kluckman.
On Saturday, the visiting writers will host a free creative writing workshop from 10 a.m.-noon at Art Space.
Both events are free and open to the public, thanks to event sponsors Mesalands Community College and Art Space.
“Tucumcari is becoming a center for poetry in Eastern New Mexico,” said Gregg Howard, Mesalands faculty member and event organizers. “This is the third visit we have received from the NMSPS poets, and the audience they attract keeps growing. We hope to make this a third very successful evening.”
