Serving the High Plains

Insurance workshop planned

Staff Report

Two public informational events will be held on Jan. 14, by BeWellnm, the official state marketplace for New Mexicans to shop, buy, and compare health plans, at the Tucumcari Conventer Center.

The free events will provide an opportunity for residents to learn more about the changes in federal law affecting health insurance and health care for residents to meet the Jan. 31, deadline to enroll in an exchange-based health plan.

Information will include the various plans offered on the exchange, and subsidies or tax credits for which they may be eligible. Information will be given in English and Spanish and there will be assistance provided to help with individual enrollment.

The New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange (NMHIX) was created to help individuals and small businesses get access to affordable health insurance plans. NMHIX helps consumers compare health insurance plans and choose the plan that works best for their health needs and budget. NMHIX also helps individuals determine whether they are eligible for premium assistance and if so, at what level.

Through BeWellnm for Small Business, the owners of small businesses are able to purchase competitively priced health insurance plans and offer their employees the ability to choose from an array of plans.

Enrollment counselors and insurance brokers/agents are available throughout the state to help with signing up for NMHIX coverage.

The times for the events are:

3 p.m., in the Liberty Room at the Tucumcari Convention Center

6 p.m., in the Liberty Room at the Tucumcari Convention Center
