Coming off a first-place finish at Clovis, the Tucumcari Rattler cheerleading team is training for their third competition of the year on Feb. 20 at Roswell.
The girls placed second on Dec. 19 in Portales and first on Jan. 16 at the Clovis High School Spirit competition, said Lauren Montano, cheer coach/sponsor.
The team consists of Kinley Jaynes, Mercedes Welch, Cyann Seth Armijo, Alicia DeLeon, Angeliena Arellano, Elena Apodaca and Celeana Arguello. At competitons the team is judged on several categories including choreograph, junps, tumbling, technique and volume.
Montano said the team has been hard at work to improve their routine that varies each time they compete. She said like previous Rattler cheer teams have shown over the past years, cheerleaders are athletes and as such they are determined to be the best athlete possible.
