Rodeo team has tough competition

Staff Report

The Mesalands Community College Rodeo Team had a difficult competition at the Cochise College rodeo in Ft. Huachuca, Arizona.

The men's team took fourth place with 220 points and the women's team earned 65 points at the rodeo.

“As a team we did okay. This was not the start to the semester that we were looking for, but it was a decent performance. We had a lot of student athletes qualify for the short round and gained a lot of points in the individual standings,” said Tim Abbott, Mesalands intercollegiate rodeo coach. “There were some individuals that I did not have on the points earning team for the Men's Team that gained another 310 points. That's one of the hardest parts of our job is trying to look at practice and determine who's going to do the best at the rodeo.”

Abbott said he and assistant coach Staci Stanbrough would probably be losing sleep over the decision on who to include on the points earning team, up until the next rodeo starts.

The Mesalands Rodeo Team will have two rodeo competitions on March 12-13, at Central Arizona College in Florence, Arizona.
