Walking trail kick-off

Residents and their families are encouraged to attend the kick-off for the Quay County Extension Services and Quay County Health Council’s latest community heath initiative the Rail Trail Saturday at the Tucumcari Railroad Depot.

The Rail Trail is a 1 3/4-mile walking trail through the Tucumcari downtown area, said Brenda Bishop, county extension agent.

Bishop said the trail is funded by Presbyterian Healthcare Services and Oregon State University Extension Service GROWS project. She said the walked will be held from 9 to 10 a.m., with the celebration of the Rail Trail continuing until 11:30 a.m., with snacks and music at the depot.

Bishop said walkers can register at the Quay County on the Move table that will be set up near the trail head.

She said walkers will receive at passport that will be stamped as they stop at listed businesses along the route. When walkers return the filled passport they will a a prize, Bishop added.

Bishop said the trail will be marked with shoe prints to help keep the walkers on track. She said Quay County on the Move encourages residents to enjoy the Rail Trail throughout the year.
